Hi. I am Herr Nelson. Hello. This is my atlas. And, I'd like to take a trip, but where should I go to? Should I go to Florida? No, that is too far. Should I go to New York? That would be great! But, no, that is also too far, all the way east, I'm in Denver, after all. Where should I go? Should I go to Iowa? No, too boring. I was already in Iowa too many times. Where should I go? California? Yes, I'll go to California.

But how should I go? Should I go by train? No, that is too slow. By airplane? No, then I can't see everything. It's too fast. Should I go by bike? No, too slow. By skateboard? Go to California by skateboard? No way. How should I go to California? By car! Yeah, I'll take an auto trip to California. Oh, that is great.

What do I need for a trip? An atlas. We are in Denver, and we are driving to San Diego in California. OK, so, I need an atlas, and I need an umbrella, and I need a flashlight. The flashlight is green. I need also cassettes, for the car, and I need travel books. I need a first aid kit and things for hiking. I go hiking in the mountains. And I need a tent. That is a tent. I sleep in a tent. I'll bring a computer along. And a book of addresses. Things for work. A pillow, for sleeping. And I need a sleeping bag and a water jug, and a stove. That is a stove for cooking. Cooking with Herr Nelson. And in here are things for the kitchen. A towel. And silverware. Knife, fork, spoon, plate, and napkins, and everything I need for a camping trip. Sleeping bag. And that is the food. Bread and chips, soup.

I am bringing a backpack with clothes. Shorts, socks, shoes, and bathroom things. And I am bringing a flute, and books and magazines and sunscreen. We need sunscreen. And that is for the camera.

I am going to take a trip to California. And we have everything. A tent. We have a sleeping bag, pillow, flashlight, umbrella, cassettes, books, computer, address book, and naturally we have a German dictionary. Yes, for German and English words. And we have an atlas. Yes, that is everything. So, let's go! Let's drive to California. But we must also pack the car...

Hello class, and welcome. My name is Herr Nelson and this is cooking with Herr Nelson. I am hungry. It is early in the morning, and I have slept well. But now I am extremely hungry. I will eat cereal for breakfast.

So, what are the ingredients for today? We need: cereal, like HoneyCombs, milk, a banana, a bowl, a knife or a scissors, and you need a...no, not a fork, a spoon. You will eat cereal for breakfast.

Open the package. Pour some cereal in the bowl. Oops! You spill some cereal on the table. Oops! Pick it up. And put it in the bowl. Like this. Then close the cereal package. That's the cereal box. And take the banana and peel it. That is hard. So, peel the banana. This banana is not so good.

And cut the banana in slices. This banana is a little broken. A little broken. And, so. Cut the banana in slices in the cereal, either with the knife or with the scissors. Ah, the banana. The banana smells pretty good. And throw the banana peel in the trashcan. So, here is the trash can. And wash your hands. Dry your hands. Pour some milk on the cereal. Ah, very good. And take a spoon full of cereal and try it!

Wonderful. Try it again. So, try it. Chew it. Swallow. Swallow it. So, class. This breakfast is the best breakfast I have had in my life.

So, enjoy. Good morning, and that was cooking with Herr Nelson. So, goodbye!

Episode 5: Through the Desert: The Road to San Diego

In Arizona. And here it is very flat. The sky is blue. It is sunny and hot and windy, it is very windy. We are almost in California. So, here is Arizona. We are driving on the interstate.

Ok, class, we are On the Road with Herr Nelson. And, we must almost leave Arizona, because we will soon be in California. Look! There is a pretty bridge. A big bridge. Ok, class. Oh yeah, that is the Colorado River. Say: "Goodbye, Arizona!" We are now leaving Arizona and we are arriving in California. Say, "Hello, California." We are in California.

Desert, in German, is called "WÃ¼ste." "Desert", das is an English word, in German is, "die WÃ¼ste." That is a desert in California. We drive on U.S. Highway 95 in California. Through the desert. It is very very hot. It is terribly hot in the desert. And dry. (Music from King Missile und Soundgarden.)

This road is a roller coaster.
